John

John | 6am to Noon

I've been called many things in my day: nerd, dork, geek, lame, ugly, repulsive, fun hater, loose canon, repulsive, father - but the most honorable and most accurate insult I've ever received was "Awful DJ."

Steve Huber

Steve Huber | Noon to 6pm

You know the guy who always used to bug you with mix tapes full of songs you’d never heard or argue about British vs. American post punk at a party? Well… he programs a radio station now so you will listen to every song he has to play!

Teresa

Teresa | 6pm to Midnight

Coming from the land of monuments and bad hair, Teresa came to Baltimore in search of enlightenment and a great crab cake. She did indeed find the crab cake, and the enlightenment only in the form of Indie 97.9.

Silversun Pickups

Silversun Pickups

From the All Music Guide: “Brian Aubert (guitar/vocals), Nikki Monninger (bass), Christopher Guanlao (drums), and Joe Lester (keyboards) comprise the swarthy indie rock stylings of Silversun Pickups. The quartet's textured melodies capture the hypnotic dream pop threads of My Bloody Valentine and pop bitter sweetness of Earlimart, and such a blend has wowed their native L.A. since 2005. Silversun Pickups issued their debut release, the six-song Pikul EP that same year while shared show dates with the likes of Brendan Benson, Dead Meadow, Two Gallants, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club followed into 2006. Produced by Dave Cooley (Rolling Blackouts, Citizen King, Smash Mouth), their full-length debut Carnavas, arrived in July. Their second full-length, Swoon, hit the shelves in 2009 and made a strong showing with its first single,"Panic Switch." Read More

We at Indie979 are HUGE fans of this band and are excited to see that they will be hitting Baltimore on their upcoming tour. Catch Silversun Pickups along with Manchester Orchestra & Cage the Elephant at Rams Head Live on August 3rd.

About The Station

About Indie 97.9

INDIE 97.9

Indie 97.9, like most great inventions, was born out of necessity. No radio station in Baltimore was playing alternative rock! Not even the ones that said they were, but that's all we'll say about that.

Indie 97.9 is not your typical radio format or your typical radio station. We play a ton of music from many genres that were relatively untapped by radio until now. We play everything from Post Punk (Gang of Four, Public Image Limited, Joy Divison), to early alternative (R.E.M., The Cure, Talking Heads), Britpop (Stone Roses, Blur, Ride), Punk (The Clash, The Descendents, The Ramones), as well the whole spectrum of latest alternative and Indie Rock sounds and any other great music being made out there that doesn't get the attention from radio that it deserves.

We spend our days scanning the internet and going to shows trying to find the most interesting music being made today so that we can bring it to you. And like most true music fans we swap music with our army of music scouting friends constantly exposing our ears to new sounds.

We look forward to you being another link in that chain. Hopefully when listening to Indie 97.9 you hear something you have never heard before and love it. If you don't hear your favorite band tell us! Trust us, we want to hear it.
